Spinning Stars Barrette
Spinning Stars Barrette by Bouncing Wolf Creations -

Eight pointed stars are found all over the world. To some Native American tribes, this star represents the sun. Square/loom stitch give us the opportunity to bring this symbol into our bead work.

I have worked this barrette with both 8/0 and 11/0 beads. The 11/0 beads make the smallest barrette that I have ever created using a metal barette back. It would be ideal for a smaller child or as a side accent barrette.

Finished dimensions for each bead type are listed below. The fringe diagram is also included.

The one-page pattern includes a large graph style beading chart which can be used for either size beads, a color key with suggested bead color and bead counts, a color diagram to add the optional fringe and a color key with suggested beads and bead counts for the fringe, and a color photo of the barrette in both sizes and the larger barrette with the fringe.

If you are looking for suggestions to help make the beadwork piece into a finished barrette, check out my tutorial How to Finish a Beaded Barrette which is also available on this site.

Approximate Finished size:
8/0: 2.875 x 2.25 inches

Sharons Stars Square Stitch Barrette

Sharons Stars Square Stitch Barrette by Bouncing Wolf Creations -

These sparkly, spinning stars remind me of a friend of mine. That is why I named this piece after her.

I worked this barrette using size 8/0 & 11/0 glass beads. Finished sizes are:

  • 8/0= 1.75 x 5 inches
  • 11/0= 1.5 x 3.5 inches
I used square stitch, but you could easily work it on a loom that allows you to bead a piece 21 wide x 43 long.

The two page pattern includes a large graph-style beading chart, color key with suggested bead colors and bead counts for two color-ways, a diagram for the optional fringe, and photos of the finished pieces.

If you need suggestions on making the beadwork piece into a barrette, check out my tutorial How to Finish a Beaded Barrette.
